From Vision to Reality: Building a world class 200mm semiconductor wafer fab in record time post-COVID

By José Silva, R&D Director, Critical Manufacturing

In today’s fast-paced manufacturing environments, downtime or degradation in Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) can lead to significant productivity and revenue losses. This session explores how adopting a proactive observability strategy—built on logs, metrics, and traces—can enable organizations to detect, diagnose, and resolve MES issues before they affect production.
In this 45-minute session, attendees will gain a practical understanding of the core pillars of observability, with a focus on:

  • The roles of logs, metrics, and traces in delivering end-to-end visibility across distributed MES environments.
  • How these telemetry data sources can be used to detect anomalies early, correlate symptoms across layers, and pinpoint root causes quickly.
  • Real-world examples of observability applied in MES environments to reduce mean time to detect (MTTD) and mean time to resolve (MTTR).

The session will dive deep into how these observability principles specifically apply to Critical Manufacturing MES, including:

  • How telemetry can be instrumented across the Critical Manufacturing platform—from server-side services and message queues to user interactions and custom extensions.
  • Strategies to monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) and system health metrics within Critical Manufacturing MES.
  • Using distributed tracing to follow execution flows across modular components like Advanced Scheduling, Process Management, and Integration Services.
  • How to leverage observability to monitor global MES instances and improve roadmap definition in a Center of Excellence (CoE) approach.

We will walk through use cases and demonstrate tools and techniques that empower MES teams to shift from reactive troubleshooting to proactive issue prevention. Whether you’re just beginning your observability journey or looking to enhance your existing practices, this session will provide actionable insights to help you improve system reliability, shorten incident response times, and ensure production continuity within the Critical Manufacturing ecosystem.
