Embracing the Future: TDK Electronics Digital Transformation Story

In 2018, TDK Electronics boosted its digital transformation. We faced a wide spread of levels in digitalization: From email to fax machines, in the shopfloor from Windows NT to Windows 7. Our systems ranged from paper workflow to a state of the art ERP. Industry 4.0 was a buzzword with varied meanings. With an external consultant, we developed a target picture focusing on a new enabled thinktank, we defined enablers, our focus areas and people. Our holistic, people-centric approach included a clear vision, extensive communication, and engaging our team through an ambassador network and several training initiatives.

We experimented with tools at the beginning, scaled solutions, identified key IT systems (ERP, CRM, MES, PLM), focused on office tools, and implemented AI. Acceptance was initially challenging, but success stories from the shop floor eased concerns, showing Industry 4.0 as a helpful tool.

Looking ahead, we plan to integrate digital marketing with CRM, rolling out AI, e.g. for unstructured data analysis, and for use in material development. We will continue to focus on development needs of our employees.
